Each skin reacts differently or more or less sensitively to exposure to direct sunlight. It is important to know your own type of skin and, in particular, your own skin protection time. Determine your skin type and minimise your risk of sunburn!
Skin type 1
Skin type 1 is distinguished by features such as very light skin colour, reddish or light blond hair, blue, green or light grey eyes and freckles.
- This type of skin doesn’t turn light brown, but instead gets freckles.
- Very frequent sunburn.
- The self-protection time of the skin is less than 10 minutes.
Skin type 2
Skin type 2 is characterised by features such as light skin colour, blond, light brown or dark brown hair and blue, grey or green eyes.
- This type of skin features a slow, minimal tanning.
- Very frequent sunburn.
- The self-protection time of the skin is 10 – 20 minutes.
Skin type 3
Skin type 3 is characterised by features such as medium skin colour, dark brown or light brown, dark blue or sometimes also black hair, brown, blue or green/grey eyes.
- This type of skin has hardly any freckles and progressively turns slightly brown.
- Occasional sunburn.
- The self-protection time of the skin is 20 – 30 minutes.
Skin type 4
Skin type 4 is characterised by light brown skin, even in untanned condition (often with a grey undertone), black eyes and black hair.
- This type of skin does not have any freckles and turns brown quickly.
- Sunburn is rare.
- The self-protection time of the skin is more than 30 minutes.
